“We were having this good conversation, and he'd forgotten about an event he had. He got a text and said, 'Oh my gosh, I'm supposed to be somewhere!'”

Paul hurried out of the house to attend the charity function, which was being organized at a race shop, to help victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Cheryl had never imagined that it would be the last time that she would ever see her son alive.

Paul left the fundraiser several hours later and decided to drive back home in a Porsche Carrera GT driven by his friend, financial adviser, and former race-car driver, Roger Rodas.

They lost control of the car, and it crashed into a lamppost and exploded, killing both Paul and Rodas immediately.

Cheryl said that a lot of people think of Paul as just some movie star who died in a car crash. She said that being an actor was only a part of who he was and there was so much more to him.

“He was an amazing man,” she has said in the documentary that will premiere on the Paramount Network.

It is almost five years since her son’s death, and Cheryl says that the family has its unique way of remembering him.

It has become a family tradition to go down to Huntington Beach, one of the actor's favorite surf spots, on his birthday on September 12 and throw sunflowers in the ocean while recalling their favorite memory of the actor.

Cheryl also shared that she has received letters from people all over the world who have said that Paul had made a difference in their lives and she feels that it is a blessing that he's never forgotten.

“I Am Paul Walker” is produced by Derik Murray of Network Entertainment, while Adrian Buitenhuis directed the documentary.
