Richard Gere married his young girlfriend in a secret ceremony

Richard Gere tied the knot with Alejandra Silva, a 35-year-old socialite from Spain with whom he established a connection through their love for humanitarian work.

The 68-year-old actor officially admitted that he was in a relationship with the publicist back in 2015, but only now have they become husband and wife.

Unlike many celebrities, the couple didn't choose to have a big and expensive party; instead, they married in secrecy in a civil ceremony that was held at the beginning of April, as reported by HOLA!

The most noticeable aspect of their relationship is the age difference. Although the Spanish beauty is way younger than the Pretty Woman star, that doesn't seem to bother them.

It is commonly said that love is blind and that the only thing that matters is what the heart wants. That appears to be the case for the lovebirds who developed a companionship..

According to People, an insider, whose identity is yet to be revealed, said that Gere and Silva were 'extraordinarily happy' and that they were 'looking forward to their future together.'

"I was a little lost, without light, and knowing him gave meaning to my life. It was feeling that someone was reaching out and showing me my true path."

To compensate for the fact that they didn't have a proper wedding, the couple will celebrate their nuptials in early May at a private party in New York City, which will have a guest list composed of family and friends.

Neither Gere nor Silva are strangers to marriage. The actor was married to Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995, and to Carey Lowell, the mother of his son, Homer, from 2002 to 2013.

The 35-year-old beauty, on the other hand, has only been married once. In 2012, she said yes to Govind Friedland, a mining executive, but asked for a divorce in 2015.

Gere currently serves an active role on the board of directors for Healing the Divide, an organization that helps and supports several worldwide initiatives that promote peace and justice.

As for Silva, she is in charge of Rais Fundacion, a non-profit organization that aims to end homelessness in Spain. She has previously slept on the street to experience what homeless people go through every day.
